Wedding plan anguish as camper van stolen

A COUPLE have been left heartbroken after the beloved camper van they were planning to use on their wedding day was stolen.

Jamie Sharp and Krista Hoey have spent the past two-and-a-half years lovingly restoring and adding personal touches to Poppy, a 1972 maroon VW. Having returned from the Chris Evans car festival in Cheshire on Sunday night, Mr Sharp parked the van on Kensington Road, Redland, outside his garage.

As there had been a problem with the starter motor that weekend, he went out on Monday morning with the intention of having a look at it, only to find Poppy had gone.

“We went everywhere with her,” said Mr Sharp, 37. “We had made Poppy just how we liked her, inside and out, and would go away any chance we had.

“We’re getting married next spring and we really wanted Poppy to be part of our big day.

“We were hoping to travel to the reception and then take her down to Cornwall for our honeymoon.”

The couple fell in love with VW campers after hiring one for a holiday and decided to buy their own.

They have spent thousands of pounds on Poppy and enjoyed trips all over the UK with their West Highland terrier, Hattie.

Since the theft, Mr Sharp has knocked on numerous doors in the area, scoured online camper van forums and set up a Facebook page in a bid to get Poppy back.

He believes the theft would have taken more than one person, and probably a vehicle to tow the van away.

Mr Sharp added: “Even if the thieves had hot-wired the van they wouldn’t have been able to start it, because the starter motor wasn’t working. I can only assume they tied some rope around the bumper and towed her away.

“We’re both feeling really bad and upset about what’s happened.

“We would love to get Poppy back, not just because of the wedding she is part of the family. If she’s been damaged or taken to pieces by whoever’s done this, it will be such a shame.

“If there’s anything anyone can do to help get her back – someone in Bristol knows what happened to her – we would be immensely grateful.”

Poppy’s registration is PRR 459L.

Blake Lively Nude Photos Fake, Rep Says

Photos of the Marchesa dress Blake Lively wore for her secret wedding to Ryan Reynolds will soon be revealed, Marchesa designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman told Life Style.

“Blake’s just such a beautiful bride! The gown was very beautiful; you’ll get to see it,” Craig shared with Life Style.

Although they didn’t say when we’d finally get to see pictures of Blake’s gown, according to the designers — who showed their Spring 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week yesterday — the stylish star knew what she wanted from the start.

“[Blake] really knows what she wants, and Georgina did a few sketches; it was very much like a bridal fitting,” Craig says.

So what was it like designing the dress for the Gossip Girl star’s top-secret nuptials?

“It was amazing,” Craig said of working with Lively, according to Time Style and Design. “She’s a good friend, and we were absolutely honored and thrilled to have been asked.”

Blake Lively all dressed in white

While the designers wouldn’t reveal any more details, if Lively’s dress is anything like Marchesa’s spring collection, we can expect an ethereal airy gown with jeweled details adding a glam touch.

Wethersfield Historical Society To Display Wedding Gowns From 1837 to 1967

Rachel Zilinski was getting married last year and needed ideas for her wedding dress.

The administrator and collections manager for the Wethersfield Historical Society, Zilinski turned to the society’s wedding gown collection for inspiration.

“We discovered all these great wedding dresses,” Zilinski said. “We had to show them.”

The result is “Wethersfield Weddings: Tying the Knot!,” a special exhibit of historical wedding dresses dating from 1837 to 1967. The exhibit will also feature wedding invitations, pictures and assorted nuptial accessories provided by the community.

The exhibition officially opens with a reception from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center. The event is free and will include a tiered wedding cake donated by Shop Rite, society Director Amy Wittorff said.

“The manager tells me that the baker is going all out,” Wittorff said.

The exhibit’s 19 dresses vary from ethereal chiffon to everyday cotton, illustrating how fashions and customs have evolved over more than a century, Zilinski and Wittorff said.

Saying yes to the dress used to be much simpler and cheaper. The oldest gowns from the early 19th century, for example, were so-called “best dresses,” garments that women continued to wear after their wedding to church or formal occasions, they said. Many are not white, a practice that began when Queen Victoria wore a white gown at her 1840 wedding, but only took hold in the late 19th century.

“We have so many wonderful things in our collection that we can bring into context,” Wittorff said. “I’m hoping that people make connections with the past and the present.”

Zilinski said her favorite dress is a blue-and-white striped silk gown with lace trim worn by Wethersfield resident Mary Strong at her 1880 wedding. It features a bustle at the back and panniers, shells of fabric attached to the hips.

“It’s just the colors,” she said. “It’s so funky. It’s appropriate to the time period, but you’d never dream of wearing a dress like this today.”

The dress, like many of the era, required a corset, Zilinski said. Another gown of the same time period features a frighteningly narrow bodice demanding a gut-wrenchingly tight corset.

“There was a lot of criticism of the fashion at the time,” Zilinski said. “It was very glamorous at the time.”

Other dresses include a 1920s flapper-style chiffon gown with lead weights to keep its shape, a 1930s gauzy gown and a late 19th century dark blue frock with bodice and bustle. Blue was a common wedding dress color in the 19th century, which is why Tiffany Jewelers chose the color for its boxes, Wittorff said. The show also includes bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride dresses.

At least one bride will be on hand Thursday to see her dress on display. Marsha Meehan will get to see the embroidered column gown she wore at her 1967 wedding that she later donated to the historical society.

“I think it feels pretty great,” Meehan said of having her dress in the exhibit.

In keeping with the spirit of the times, Meehan wanted a dress that was nontraditional. She found the ivory gown at Sage Allen. A fan of folk music, she loved the informal material — dotted Swiss — whose use in a formal garment was unheard of at the time.

“It kind of reflected me and the ’60s,” Meehan said.

Also part of the exhibit are historical wedding invitations, which were often handwritten and sent to 10 or so family and friends a week or two before the nuptials, Zilinski said. Ceremonies in the 19th and early 20th centuries were typically more informal than today, often taking place in the front parlor instead of a church, she said. Brides spent more time and money on their “trousseau,” the wardrobe and home textiles, such as quilts, that they brought to their marriage, than their gowns, she said.

It was only in the 1920s and especially after World War II that the big production weddings of today took hold, Zilinski said.

“The economic prosperity after World War II really permitted the idea of the wedding industry,” she said.

The society has asked the public to let them scan their wedding photos as well as lend invitations and other nuptial knick-knacks, such as napkins, matchbooks and menus. The exhibit will include wedding photos from 1863 to the present. One artifact is a late 1950s wedding gown box from G. Fox’s specialty wedding section with the bill stapled to it. The cost of the dress and headpiece: $110.48.

The Keeney Memorial Cultural Center is at 200 Main St. To donate a gown or lend an item for the exhibit or for more information, call 860-529-7656.

Move Over Kate Middleton! Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary’s Wedding Dress Is A …

Actress Michelle Dockery believes her character’s dress will be compared to Kate’s

It looks like the stunning wedding dress that Kate Middleton wore when she tied the knot with Prince William in April last year is about to face competition from Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary’s dress.

As the hit ITV1 period drama returns to our screens this Sunday, fans will finally get to see Lady Mary, played by Michelle Dockery and Matthew Crawley, played by Dan Stevens tie the knot, and it appears that the dress Lady Mary will wear down the aisle could give the Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress Kate wore, a run for it’s money.

Explaining the design of the dress, STV.tv reports Michelle saying: “It’s an absolutely stunning design. Caroline McCall [Downton Abbey’s series three costume designer] did such an extraordinary job. She’s really talented. She worked with Susannah Buxton [series one and two costume designer] – the master! – for two years so inevitably she’s just as brilliant.”

“It’s a truly stunning dress. I’m sure that people will maybe make some comparisons with the Royal wedding,” she added.

Recalling the day they filmed the all important wedding scene, Michelle continued:

“The crowds as we arrived at the church and stepped out of the carriage were just amazing, with all these supporting artists cheering us on.”

Admitting that she felt like the Duchess of Cambridge on that day, the actress told the Mirror earlier this year: “I felt a bit like Kate Middleton with all the security, but we didn’t want people seeing the dress before the day.

“I’d never worn a wedding dress – I’ve never filmed an on-screen wedding before. I loved it.”

We can’t wait for it!

Flipping Out Recap: Jeff Lewis…Wedding Planner?

Last night’s Flipping Out was my big fat Greek disaster when Jenni enlists Jeff to help her plan the events in Chicago.  He does a better job at counting her pennies than picking out place settings.

Jeff Lewis loves pitting Zoila Chavez against Lupe.  He enlists boyfriend Gage Edward to help him drive The Zoila crazy.  It is priceless.  Later Jeff and Jenni Pulos head out to work on a project, and he gets freaked out when she makes eye contact with a homeless guy outside of the car.  The duo meet with Jeanne Shaw, a repeat client whose home they are upgrading.  Jeff is freaking out that Jenni has yet to send out her Save the Dates, so he and Jeanne needle her about her jam packed wedding weekend.  Jeff loves working with Jeanne because he’s often able to convince her to make more changes than she initially planned.  Money isn’t really an object though as Jeanne is married to the lead singer of Styx.

Gage is still peeved with Jeff for purchasing Spring Oak without discussing it with him.  He’s also not super excited to hear that Jeff spent over $13,000 on a rug, but hey, at least it’s not a house.  Jeff takes Andrew, Jenni, and Zoila to Spring Oak where he continues to tease Zoila about Lupe.  He then pulls in Vanina to gang up on Jenni about her giant second wedding.  Jeff isn’t buying for a second that she’s doing this for her fiance.

Jeanne has quite the potty mouth when she learns that Jeff wants to do a new addition.  He brings in an architect and has Andrew hold her hand while she comes around to the idea of adding square footage.  Her minor punch list has turned into a major renovation.  Back at home, Gage and Jeff tell Zoila that Lupe thinks she’s a b*tch.  Zoila isn’t hearing any of it.  She is the bigger b*tch of the two.  Jeff touts his main hobby as pushing people’s buttons.

Jeff and Jenni meet Gage at Gramercy where a hit and run driver has taken out a wall.  There is a giant hole in the wall and car parts sprinkled everywhere.  Gage is getting very frustrated with the fact that Jeff isn’t excited about the home anymore.  He feels like Jeff has cast Gramercy aside like an ex-girlfriend, and Jeff does admit to being fickle now that he’s got Spring Oak.

Jenni and Jeff eat breakfast with Jeff’s sister-in-law Carrie.  Jenni is getting roasted about her wedding plans.  She really needs to get on the ball.  Jenni begs Jeff to come to Chicago with her for a last minute planning trip.  He basically steps in as wedding planner.  Jeff selfishly thinks if he can help Jenni make the last minute big decisions with the wedding then maybe she’ll be better able to focus on her actual job.

Andrew joins Jenni and Jeff in Chicago to play the role of driver and resident do-boy.  The group starts at the Greek Museum in hopes that it will be the perfect venue for the rehearsal dinner.  Jeff thinks it is insane that Jenni is inviting all of the wedding guests to the rehearsal dinner, and he doesn’t think that the attendees are going to be as enthralled by the interactive museum as Jenni and Andrew seem to be.  Meanwhile, Gage is busting his bum in L.A. to make Gramercy a place that Jeff will want to call home…again.

Back in Chicago, Andrew is suffering from major road rage.  Jenni’s fiance Jonathan joins the group to tour the reception space.  It is massive.  Jeff is concerned that it will be difficult to make the venue to look full.  The group proceeds to a tasting for the wedding food, and there is a long running dialog between Andrew and Jeff about how many big lamb balls Andrew can fit in his mouth.  Jenni is appalled and the event coordinator is confused.  I am extremely amused.  Jeff railroads the tasting with his likes and dislikes, all of which are contrary to Jenni’s.  Jonathan is smiling, but you can tell he is quickly losing patience for his future wife’s boss.  Jeff keeps referring to it as “his” day.  He knows exactly how to get under Jenni’s skin!

In Los Angeles, Gage steps into the role of driving Zoila crazy.  He is teasing her about her neckline, and she explains she’s wearing a push-up bra in hopes of attracting someone with her bosom while she’s taking out the trash.  I really want to hang out with Gage and Zoila.

In Chicago, Jonathan’s sister is modeling bridesmaids dresses.  The dress Jenni’s chosen is gorgeous and versatile, but Jeff is worried that it won’t have enough coverage for Zoila.  He suggests that Zoila be covered head-to-toe in fabric with just eye holes cut out so she can see to walk down the aisle.  Andrew takes a turn on the catwalk modeling a short strapless number.  This is clearly not his first time in heels!

At Jeff’s house we get a sneak peek at just how much Zoila works when Lupe is around.  Zoila reminds viewers that Lupe is her assistant and she is in charge.  She is certainly good at supervising, that’s for sure!

The trio of Jeff, Jenni, and Andrew kidnap the wedding planner to go pick out the decor for the reception.  Jeff once again can’t help be heard.  He wants to edit the plan for decorating.  The poor wedding planner looks like he’s going to have a stroke.  He is terrified of Jeff.  I do agree with Jeff that the decor needs to be less cluttered.  Jeff is concerned that Jenni is spending her life’s savings on this wedding, and she is quickly regretting her decision to invite him.  He lectures her to the point where he is irate with Jenni.  Jeff wonders how she’ll be able to buy a home if she’s spending every last cent on one day.  Things are tense between them, but Jenni understands that Jeff is just being protective.

The group returns home, and Jeff gifts Lupe with a bonus while complimenting Zoila on her salad preparation skills.  They really are such a funny dysfunctional family.  Jeanne tours Gramercy, and when she gets excited about it, some of that thrill seems to rub off on Jeff.  Mission accomplished, Gage!  I think Jeanne needs to be a permanent fixture on the show as well.

Next week, Jeff butts heads with a new client, and a tearful Andrew feels Jeff’s wrath.
